The Green Commute – Sustainability Starts Before the Hotel Door

Posted on

For us, sustainability doesn't stop at the reception desk. It begins long before our team members set foot in the hotel – on their way to work.

Our staff come from all corners of Vienna. Their commutes vary, and so do their modes of transport – but they all share one thing: the commitment to get here as eco-friendly as possible. Whether cycling through Vienna's streets, walking through the neighbourhood, hopping on the U-Bahn, tram or bus – or arriving by electric car, which is a smart and clean alternative for those routes where public transport simply doesn't reach. Everyone finds their own way, and everyone pulls in the same direction.

It's often the small, everyday decisions that make the real difference. Leaving the car at home and grabbing the bike or jumping on public transport is a genuine contribution – not just for the environment, but for the quality of life in our city. Vienna is perfectly set up for this: an extensive metro network, well-developed cycling infrastructure, and a city where so much is simply within walking distance.

This mindset of our team fits seamlessly into what Hotel SPIESS & SPIESS stands for as a whole. We are proud to be certified with the Austrian Eco Label – one of the most rigorous and well-recognised sustainability certifications for accommodation providers in Austria.

But a certification is only as good as the people behind it. And that's exactly why we're especially glad that our team doesn't see sustainability as a box to tick, but as a personal attitude they genuinely live by.

Sustainability is a process – not a destination you reach once and then move on from. We continuously work on reducing our ecological footprint.

We also invite our guests to join us on this journey. The hotel is just 100 metres from U3 station Rochusgasse – Stephansplatz is only five minutes away. Vienna is a city best explored by public transport, bike or on foot. Give it a try!
